Congratulations to Michael Elwan!

We are thrilled to congratulate 2023 Alumni Michael Elwan on his recent appointment to the Board of ASeTTS (Association for Services to Torture and Trauma Survivors), an organisation providing holistic services for refugee survivors of torture and trauma to rebuild their lives. 

Michael shared how the ELGP has shaped his governance journey:

“The ELGP was a significant steppingstone in my leadership journey. As someone from a culturally and linguistically diverse background, with lived experience of caregiving and systems navigation, the program offered me not only practical governance knowledge but also a sense of belonging and validation that my voice had value in boardrooms.

Following the program, I was honoured to contribute to the board of ASeTTS – an organisation whose mission resonates deeply with my own personal and professional story of migration, trauma-informed care, and community empowerment.

Today I lead Lived Experience Solutions (LEXs), a values-led social enterprise focused on culturally responsive mental health counselling, suicide prevention, and systems transformation. Much of what I offer through LEXs is rooted in the leadership insights and networks that the ELGP helped nurture.”

His appointment is a powerful example of the impact the ELGP can have in the governance space when equipped with the right tools, support, and networks. Congratulations again to Michael on this inspiring achievement. We are excited to watch the impact he will continue to make in the community sector!
