Congratulations to the ELGP 2025 Graduates!

On Wednesday 14 May, we proudly celebrated the graduation of our 2025 Emerging Leaders in Governance Program (ELGP) cohort – a passionate, values-driven group of changemakers ready to shape the future of the community sector.
Over the past four months, these incredible individuals have shown unwavering commitment, curiosity and courage. They have asked the big questions, embraced bold conversations and built meaningful connections with sector leaders, community partners, and one another. Their growth has been palpable, shown not only in their governance knowledge, but in their confidence, networks, and sense of purpose.
The evening was brought to life by our brilliant MC’s and 2025 participants, Mariama Bah and Tristan Bonthuys, who set the tone with humour and valuable reflections on the program. We opened with a moving Acknowledgement of Country by Peter Butler, 2025 participant, and warm opening remarks from Enda Fahy, CEO of Southcare, who reminded us why investing in our emerging leaders is essential for the future of the community sector.
Highlights of the evening included the learning journey reflections from participants Vern Bates, Alanna Lofthouse, Chris Bashall, and Nicola McKinnon. Each speaker shared a different perspective on their ELGP journey, from overcoming imposter syndrome, to finding personal leadership clarity during the annual Leadership Retreat. What shone through was the power of peer support and the genuine bonds formed throughout the program – a standout feature that sets ELGP apart.
We also heard from Rick Brooks, Chair of Sexual Health Quarters, who delivered a compelling message on the ‘wicked problems’. In particular supply and demand challenges in the community sector, and the pivotal role new leaders like our graduates can play in addressing them.
Program Facilitators Alicia Curtis and Grace Mugabe led the certificate presentation, honouring each graduate and celebrating the passion, energy and integrity they brought to every session. The night wrapped up with a warm and generous vote of thanks by Nick Tran, who acknowledge the many people behind the scenes, including program facilitators, family and friends, and our community partners.
Watch the video below for a snapshot of our 2025 cohort and to hear directly from our participants about their biggest takeaways and the value of diversity in the boardroom:
Well done to our graduates! Your governance journey is only just beginning, and we cannot wait to see the impact you will make in the governance space. Stay connected, stay curious, and keep championing the change you want to see!
Thank you to our Community Partners for your continued belief in this program. Your support has helped shape 20 more emerging leaders who are ready to serve with courage, integrity and heart. A special thank you to Brightwater, SwanCare, Sexual Health Quarters, Ruah Community Services, and Juniper for your generous contributions and involvement throughout the year, and to the many mentors giving their time for our participants.
Here’s to leadership with purpose, and to another outstanding ELGP cohort!
