ELGP 2022 Spring Project – A Guide to Annual General Meetings

Our ELGP 2022 Spring graduates created a guide to Annual General Meetings. The project created by our participants provides an overview of AGMs, their importance in the functioning of an organisation, the legalities required, and tips on modernisation and broader opportunities.
An AGM is a prime opportunity to authentically connect with and engage stakeholders, collect feedback to help direct strategy, share challenges and celebrate wins, plus so much more. In the community and NFP sector, where resources can be scarce, failing to look beyond AGMs formalities is simply a missed opportunity.
The production of this resource forms part of the authors’ participation in the 2022 Spring Emerging Leaders in Governance Program.
This guide covers three sections about AGMs:
- An overview, including the purpose of an AGM, components, and attendees and their role
- AGM legalities, covering the Governing Law, NFP governance standards, applicability to AGMs, updates to laws applicable to AGMs, and key takeaways
- AGM optimisation, in including digitalising AGMs and the reasons and tools to do so, addressing low AGM attendance, engagement, and other considerations
