Ready for the Boardroom: ELGP 2025 Cohort Leads the Way

The 2025 Emerging Leaders in Governance Program (ELGP) has officially wrapped on Wednesday 21 May, with a final debrief session marking the conclusion of a transformative journey. Over the past few months, our participants have immersed themselves in a hands-on, reflective, and high-impact learning experience to build the knowledge, confidence, and leadership mindset to take on board roles across the community and not-for-profit sector.
Throughout the program, participants explored the realities and complexities of modern governance in the community sector. They deepened their understanding of not-for-profit structures, the distinct responsibilities of various roles in the organisation, and the importance of due diligence of boardroom culture. Discussions around rising operational costs, funding limitations, and growing compliance pressures highlighted the ongoing challenges facing the sector, while providing valuable context for strategic decision-making.
A major focus of the program was bridging theory with practical insight. Through financial workshops and expert panels, participants learned how to interpret financial reports, identify key risks, and ask informed questions that align with strategic priorities. They also examined how effective governance is underpinned by psychological safety, inclusive leadership, and strong relationships between board members and executives.
One of the program’s most impactful experiences was the Leadership Retreat in March, which gave participants space to reflect on their personal values, leadership identity, and aspirations. Through workshops and team development activities, the cohort explored how to align their board contributions with purpose, while developing essential skills like risk management, strategic thinking, and the ethical use of emerging technologies, such as AI.
The program concluded with the ELGP graduation night, where our participants shared their personal highlights and reflections, including forming deep peer connections, discovering their authentic leadership style, and gaining clarity around financial management. It was clear from their reflections that they are leaving the program empowered, ready to lead with integrity, and equipped to contribute meaningfully to governance conversations and decisions within the community and not-for-profit sector.
We are immensely proud of the 2025 ELGP cohort. Their dedication, curiosity, and growth over the course of the program have been inspiring, and we know they will go on to shape stronger, more diverse and values-driven boards.
If you are ready to grow your leadership, expand your influence, and serve with purpose, ELGP 2026 may be your next step. Learn more about the program and stay updated on applications here.
We extend a special thank you Brightwater, Swancare, Sexual Health Quarters, Ruah Community Services, and Juniper for their significant contributions over the course of our program this year. We thank all of our community partners for contributing to another spectacular cohort and year of ELGP, and we look forward to seeing you at our State of the Nation for a more detailed wrap-up of the accomplishments of EYLACCB this year.
